Medicare changes are shifting the bulk of rehab from inpatient facilities and traditional home health to outpatient therapy. New payment models under PDPM in the skilled inpatient rehab space as of 10/1/19 and PDGM models in home health as of 1/1/20 have made therapy services more limited in their utilization pushing patients through the system quicker than ever before to outpatient clinics. Unfortunately, for many, just getting to outpatient therapy is burdensome, therefore limiting the potential progression of their rehab as they are forced to stop therapy based on inconvenience.
